CITY STAY-CATION with the razzle and the dazzle!

We Wackers don’t do long holidays – I hate leaving my doggos alone for too long so we prefer luxe overnighters, weeknight stay-cations or weekenders – and we do it in style! Our preferred stay-cation involves gorgeous food, wine and something entertaining so our latest trip ticked all the boxes with some really special touches.

On Wednesday we hit the road for a 90 minute drive south on the Bruce Hwy to Brisbane where we checked in to the stunning Rydges Southbank. The room we checked into was huge and so glam with epic views across Southbank and into the CBD. **note my cute razzle dazzle inspired overnight bag by Smolder Bags and our welcome gifts in the pics below.

Once we had acquainted ourselves with the river view room in all its glory we made our way to the grand eating establishment on the Promenade level – Bacchus Restaurant. First thing you notice is how glamorous this joint is. The decor had me feeling like we were in some Hollywood movie and the silver service is something else. The Pre-Theatre Menu is so special and offers 2 or 3 course options. We ordered a bottle of Chard Farm pinot gris and sipped wine while we explored the range of house made bread and olive oil – holy wow! Amuse bouche was so delicate and pretty, entrees were outstanding (I had the Fish Pillow and Mark had a celeriac dish), mint and lime granita as a palate cleanser then main dishes came out and we savored every mouth full (lamb and pecorino pasta with mussles) . Check ’em out!

The fabulous thing about the pre-theatre menu is that you can enjoy the most glorious food before you stroll down the road to QPAC to see a show. It’s all very romantic and a bit posh. I recommend an early meal around 5.30pm. We were done by 7pm and could make our way to the theatre and sneak in a cheeky pre-show Prosecco before seeing the CHICAGO THE MUSICAL – yasssssss!

CHICAGO THE MUSICAL was bloody fantastic. Firstly, there is such a great buzz just being at the theatre – it’s so fancy! I also knew that it would be the type of musical Mark would really enjoy – it’s funny and sexy and oh so entertaining. Alinta Chidzey was a stand out as Velma in this production – I have never seen her perform before but I will now seek out ANY show she is in – she is captivating. I was really excited to see Natalie Bassingthwaighte as Roxie and she was SO SO great. Casey Donovan plays the role of Mama and does it with such sass and sheer vocal talent. The ensemble cast were mesmerizing and we both adored the show.

The event concluded around 10pm and we wandered the short distance back to the room for the most comfortable nights sleep in our super special room. I loved our mid week city stay-cation and you can do it too – Chicago is on until Dec 7 and Rydges Southbank have a package that includes accommodation, a Chicago themed treat on arrival, buffet breakfast and valet parking.

Go get some razzle dazzle and all that jazz in Brisbane before Chicago packs up and heads to Melbourne.
